Primary/Junior Room Arrangement Checklist Consider the complete room, including walls, floor, ceiling and furnishings. Each part can be used to capture a student's attention and help lead him or her to God's truths. Consider the following questions as you look at your classroom. Check areas that need the most help.
Is the room neat, clean and uncluttered? Does it have child-size furniture? Is the temperature appropriate? Is there a welcome area for attendance, name tags and extra outer clothing? Are there definite, designated activity areas such as a table and chair area, a carpet or carpet squares area, low shelving separations, etc.? Do activity areas have appropriate supplies? Are toys and supplies appropriate to the ages of the children? Do you have a seasonal area of the room? Is there a worship area with an open Bible, a container for offerings and perhaps an object related to the story of the day? Are there maps and/or timelines related to current Bible passages? Do you have posters, bulletin boards and/or murals related to current lessons? Can you use seasonal ceiling hangings such as apples, snowflakes, sunshine, birds, butterflies, kites, etc.? Do you have storage to keep supplies close but out of sight and uncluttered? If you have a long room, is it visually divided into smaller areas so the children do not immediately think of running? Does one person do all the after-class cleanup? Does each teacher put his or her own things away and then help others? How are supplies replenished? Be an observant servant.
