Small Preschool Group: Guided Center - Larger Larger Classes Provide something such as color-coded clothespins for each area. Limit the number of children that can be allowed in an area to the number of clothespins in that area. Attach a clothespin to each child's clothing when he or she is visiting the area. Teach the children to remove and return the clothespins when they leave the area so someone else can have a turn. Help children cooperate with specific, positive instructions. Smaller Classes Use fewer activities and present them consecutively rather than simultaneously. Be careful to provide variety. Choose how you want children to participate, and be consistent from week to week. Preparation Each lesson has suggestions, but specific selections are left to your interest and discretion. Make sure the area is pleasantly ready for the children with appropriate supplies. There are as many ways to present activities as there are teachers. Watch the children and consider their interests and abilities as you make choices. Presentation There are as many ways to present activities as there are teachers. Make sure the activities reinforce the lesson and enhance rather than detract from it. Help the children see the relation between the activity and the truths in the lesson. Examples One guided center can be a craft if you have the interest and resources. Children enjoy taking things home. Items should either be of high quality that can be kept indefinitely or should be easily disposable later in the week.
